  • Jan 5, 2020: “We visited Fernie from Dec.29 - January 1, for a family ski trip. As others have written, the snow had not been great so far this season, with some early season rain making for icier conditions on both the upper and lower parts of the mountain. However, this is not the fault of the resort, and we got a big dump of snow on New Years Eve that made skiing a lot better on January 1. Just make sure you've got your powder legs ready - you can really get a workout in the deep stuff. Fernie is a mid-sized Rockies resort (2500+ acres) that feels even bigger because of the wide spread of bowls on the upper mountain. The views are beautiful from the top, and any strong intermediate skier can find a line down from the top. The lower mountain contains more traditional runs, and there are some good ones (not just beginner). Conditions and crowds, of course, make the lower mountain less desirable, but it wasn't too bad on the days we were there. The lift system helps in spreading out the crowd around the mountain. One thing to note is that Fernie is attended more by locals (due to its proximity to the town), or by property owners. As a result, the "village" is not much to speak of. A couple of restaurants, a small gift shop, and a small grocery store. If you are looking for non-ski activities, Fernie has basically none (other than a horse-drawn sleigh ride). After a ski day, most people either leave, head into town, or go to the condos they own. For visitors like us, this was disappointing. We are used to having a wide range of activities to keep us busy in the evenings, such as tubing, ice skating, games/trivia nights, etc... You are probably better to head down into the town of Fernie - which thankfully is only 10 minutes from the ski hill. However, the town doesn't offer a lot for younger kids - it is mostly restaurants, shops, a brewery, and a distillery. This seems like a lost revenue opportunity for the ski hill, but perhaps they've determined there isn't sufficient demand for on-hill activities. All in all, this is a good place for amazing views and great powder skiing, with a wide variety of runs to suit all abilities.” 0
  • Jan 4, 2020: “We went along with our kids and grandkids. Snow was a bit thin, but that’s unusual for this time of year - and no ones fault! What really stood out was the friendliest set of employees I ah e ever run into. From the greeters by the parking lots, to the lift operators and the guides on the hill, this was one really friendly and welcoming place - very impressive!” 1
  • Dec 25, 2019: “My cousin lives in the area and took us here for a half-day of skiing! It is so beautiful here! Views absolutely everywhere you look. We visited during December, where there hadn't been that much snowfall, but it still made for a great day. As we are only beginners, we stuck to the green slopes and one blue! Fab trip, beautiful place.” 2
