Big White Ski Resort

  • Jan 22, 2020: “A lovely family friendly ski resort with plenty to do and see. Hire a snowboard/ ski or take lessons all available at Central Village. Friendly staff from all over the world which makes for an interesting holiday when they are all from different places. Stores for ski gear, bottle shop, clock tower cafe all in one central place with great service from all the staff. Plenty of restaurants to dine at plus great hot chocolate at the Clocktower Cafe. Tubing is great fun along with the Gondola to take you to and from Happy Valley to Central Village Mall. In all a beautiful place to holiday and thank you to all the staff who made it such an enjoyable trip. Just a tip be nice to the young staff most of who are on working visas and without the hundreds of young people doing this there would be no resort for you to enjoy as the amount of staff to run this place is enormous. We saw one Australian couple having a go at a young staff member over the stupidest of things... if you are the “entitled” type of traveler or wanting some posh type of holiday lacking in friendly conversation and service then may need to look at a smaller resort. In all a bucket list holiday ! ” 0
  • Jan 20, 2020: “We spent a week at Big White ski resort 1st week of January. We try to travel to a different ski resort every time we ski. A friend of mine who lived in Seattle mentioned big white was a great location in BC. I've skied in most states in the us and whistler in bc. in this review i am comparing bw to other resorts i've visited like breckenridge, park city, whistler, etc. Pros: Big white has consistently the best snow I've seen and skied on. An average day at bw was similar to the best day you get at another resort like vail. The resort was not very crowded even for new years holiday. There was only 1 day out of the week that we had to wait 10-15 min in line twice and that was because 2 main lifts were down. The cost to ski and stay at resort cheaper than a similar resort in us and whistler. us to canadian dollar exchange helps. Family friendly. Many activities for kids including ice skating, ice climbing, snow mobiling, tubing, games, etc. Good restaurants all within the village area close to most of the lodging. Cons: Main complaint was the poor visibility due to fog. The resort is at 7500 ft. there is a lot of snow because slopes are in the clouds. but this causes some very poor visibility. 3 days for us. we only had 1 clear day. Big white is a difficult resort to get to. I think this is true even if you live in the NW. There are limited flights to Kelowna which is still 1 hour from the resort. Drive from vancouver is 5 hours. Overall I would recommend a trip to this resort. ” 1
  • Jan 18, 2020: “Big White is a fabulous place, even for non-skiers like us. We stayed at the resort for a week after Christmas with friends who are skiers and snow-boarders. We had plenty to do. My husband took a few alpine ski lessons, we both took a nordic ski lesson, and we snow-shoed several times. The tube park was great fun for adults and kids. There's also ice-skating, an ice tower (for climbing) and other winter activities. There are a number of restaurants and shops -- something for everyone. We also really appreciated the small grocery store and liquor stores that are at the resort, as we were able to make some meals in our room instead of going out to eat every meal. The resort is very family friendly, and dog-friendly, too! We were impressed with the programs that they have for kids and how well all the instructors interacted with them. The staff is really nice. We got the sense that everyone who works there loves it and wants to make sure the guests love it, too. My one piece of advice would be to plan ahead and reserve ahead. If you don't, you may not be able to do everything that you want to. For example, we really wanted to take the horse-drawn carriage into the woods for brunch, but that was fully booked by the time we called to make a reservation (about a week before we went.) I wasn't able to make any spa appointments while there because I waited until I got there to try. And if you want to have the opportunity to eat at the spectacular 6 Degrees, you'll definitely want to reserve a table ahead of time. (We had a tasting dinner there one night and it was fantastic!) Other than wishing I had planned a few activities ahead of time, I wouldn't change a thing about our week at Big White. It was just about perfect.” 2
